In a death phobic and ‘life at any cost’ culture, trying to ensure you have the death that you want requires work and preparation. From the practical ‘Do not attempt resuscitation order’ and Lasting power of attorneys (LPA orders), to the emotional and important conversations that may be needed with loved ones, I can guide you through this multi-faceted process.
Your Wishes
Different parts of the country have different provisions, but in essence there are simple steps that can be taken to try to ensure you have the kind of death that you wish and your wishes are respected, even if you cannot speak for yourself.
Accessible Support
I co-ordinated Powys Teaching Healthboard’s ‘My Life, My Wishes’ project to make Advance Care Planning accessible and normalised.
Sometimes we have very clear ideas of what we want but don’t know how to navigate healthcare systems to achieve them. Sometimes we don’t know what we want, and talking it through with a supportive person can help clarify our wishes. Sometimes it’s helpful to begin with what we don’t want to happen, to get clear on the steps to take to experience something different.
I work in person on the Isle of Wight and online, offering a one-hour session for £50.
